We wandered down to Hallstrom Point and gazed at the view for a while. The birds had Maggie fascinated, and she loved watching them. There is a little sign at the the Point that tells that the area was named after Sir Edward Hallstrom (1886-1970), a philanthropist and local industrialist. His home ‘Figtree House’ (now demolished) fronted Coolawin Road. Its grounds contained a private zoo, an in-ground salt-water swimming pool and a ballroom. I wondered what it looked like, so I went in search of some old photos, it would have been so fascinating to have been able to go for a tour around it. Find an image of Hallstrom's Old House here
